Medical Service Overview

Diocese of Geita & Mama Maji’s Mission

The Diocese of Geita operates a vital healthcare network serving approximately two million people. This system includes a district-level hospital (currently transitioning to a regional referral facility), two health centers, and three dispensaries.

Our vision and mission emphasize an integrated approach to human development, recognizing the inseparability of spiritual and physical needs. Accordingly, the Diocese focuses on integral evangelization and sustainable development.

Core Medical Services

  • Maternal & Neonatal Care: Comprehensive support for mothers and infants, including Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) to reduce infant mortality.

  • Specialized Care: Access to critical treatments including dialysis and ophthalmology (eye care).

  • Emergency Services: 24/7 medical response and urgent care capabilities.

  • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborating with international organizations like USAID and CRS to expand service reach and quality.

Strategic Growth: St. John Paul II Hospital

The cornerstone of our future medical impact is the St. John Paul II Hospital. This facility will significantly increase regional capacity for specialized care.

  • Status: The project is currently 40% complete.

  • Goal: Once finished, it will serve as a premier regional referral hub, bringing advanced medical technology to underserved communities.

  • Support: We are actively seeking donor partnerships and community support to complete this vital infrastructure and bridge the gap in local healthcare access.
